Wherever I am on the boat, this is next too me. The core tools are the same and I swap out the other tools for a specific job. The soft outside is nice for bumping around, but it has an internal structure and doesn't collapse on itself.
I have had these Snap-on crimpers for years. They are awesome! I would not suggest these on a boat, since the are pricey. Klien tools makes basically identical pliers. You also will not cry as hard when they join my flashlight in a oneway Scuba dive.
Yes, this might be a strange go to, everyday tool. I know. But, I am doing a lot of custom wood and metal work. I am often measuring the minor and major diameters of fasteners. Screwing a stainless fastener into aluminum when the hole is too small, you will have a fastener with a broke off head.
I like to do final tightening by hand. I have found that the cordless screwdriver above almost never over tightens, but sometimes I do not chance it. Bits click in. 3 settings, Forward, No ratchet, and reverse.
Multi use! That is all I can say! I have a high end cutter for removing the jacket from large battery wire, 2/0 and 4/0, but the blades are expensive. I use this instead. Just keep one side of the blade for those projects and the other for general cutting.
